This is the first move to create Brand Awareness of MEP Deck Machinery and Anchoring Mooring, Towing Systems (together with MEP’s in-house brand - MORDEC Accessories like Anchors, Chain & Fittings, Deck Fittings, Wire Rope, Synthetic Ropes, Material Handling Gears). MEP Systems aims to appoint an official Marketing Representative in Brazil for its MEP Deck Machinery System and Distributors for its MORDEC Accessories, to provide value-added one stop Deck-side Products & Engineering Service to this huge market.

Brazil has been the talk of the town for its Pre-salt Program where Petrobras has announced its huge investment plans in contracting various local shipyards to build over 140 offshore support vessels of various sizes to support its drilling activities in the next 5 years. MEP aims to have a stronger foothold in the Brazilian market in terms of supplying Deck Equipment for all the New Ship Building Projects, and Engineering Services to its existing fleet of Vessels under operation in the area.

Through the help of IE Singapore Brazil Office, MEP Systems has established contacts with various local Shipyards that has been contracted for the new Shipbuilding Programme initiated by Petrobras and MEP Systems will be working very hard with its agents and distributors to enter Petrobras Master Vendor List.

Middle East Workboats 09
5-7 October 09
Abu Dhabi National
Exhibition Centre, UAE
Booth no: E9

MEP Systems participated in The Middle East Workboat Show in Abu Dhabi. This is our 2nd year at this reputable Workboat Show. We get good exposure as the piracy in the Middle East in the gulf of Aden has resulted in one leading shipyard ADSB with major increase for security vessels. ADSB is one of our major client’s in UAE. ADSB have on hand security vessels of 74 units to built. Strategic Marine which is An Australian company with branches in Spore/Vietnam & Mexico have on hand order of more than USD250 million.

Moreover we have good visitation from fellow ship builders from various shipyards that participated in this Workboat. We have gathered good contacts from Shipbuilders & Ship repairers.

We have managed to source out Golten Dubai as our after sales agent in Middle East. We too have good contact as for sales follow up after the Workboat exhibition.

Although there is a financial meltdown in Dubai but the Shipbuilding industry is not much affected. We are following up on the new contacts with regular emails & flashing of news. We still see strong growth in the Middle East New ship builts as the oil export prices remain constant.

SMM India 09

SMM India 09
12-14 November 09
Bombay Exhibition Centre, India
Booth no: 316

MEP Systems participated in the inaugural SMM exhibition held in Mumbai for the very first time. MEP Systems has promoted its range of Products & Services with the intention to create Brand Awareness of MEP Deck Machineries i.e Anchoring Mooring, Towing Systems (together with MEP’s in-house brand - MORDEC Accessories i.e Anchors, Chain & Fittings, Deck Fittings, Wire Ropes, Synthetic Ropes, Material Handling Gears).

In addition, MEP Systems aims to appoint an official Marketing Representative in India & Bangladesh for its MEP Deck Machinery System and Distributors for its MORDEC Accessories, to provide value-added one stop Deck-side Products & Engineering Services to these potentially huge markets.

The Indian economy has enjoyed almost double-digit growth rates for many years. GDP was up 8.8% in fiscal year 2007/2008, which ended in March 2008, following GDP growth of 9.4% during last year. The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) forecasts growth of 8.6% and 8.4% in the next two years. The Indian shipbuilding industry is characterized by the same rapid growth rate, it currently comprises about 32 shipyards. In May 2008 she had moved up to 8th position among the Top Ten global shipyards, with a packed order book for 220 newbuildings, a total of 2 million CGT (Capital Gains Tax). According to estimates by the Shipyards Association of India, all private-sector and state-run shipyards together, will invest a total of $5.54 billion in modernization and capacity increase by 2012. As a matter of fact, expected turnover in India’s shipbuilding industry is set to rise by 500%.

As for Bangladesh shipping industry, the Europeans and the Americans faltered to compete with their Asian counterparts. As a result, all yards in China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Japan are booked for apparently next ten years building super-ships, and the owners could not find yards to build the smaller vessels i.e., up to 6000 DWT. This effect eventually forced the owners to focus their attention to Bangladesh. Testing orders were placed and only a few yards could draw the attention of the prospective builders like Ananda Shipyard, Western Marine, Highspeed and Karnafuly grabbing orders for approximately 22 vessels of various types but of smaller capacity because of lack of infrastructural capability and depth of water limiting the sizes of these vessels to a maximum of 4500 DWT. Highspeed Shipyard, though late, is negotiating several offers from abroad. The vessels mentioned above would be worth US$ 300 million and would require five years to build.

Given the outstanding financial outlook planned for the near future, it is imperative that MEP Systems should tap into the vast shipbuilding industry in India and Bangladesh at this present moment.
