In the last decade, ocean going barges have become important parts of the transportation system. MEP sees the acquisition and building of a small 36M Utility/coastal tug as a general purpose vessel to take advantage of offshore work, since many barges are used in the development and construction of offshore oil and gas fields that would require a tug of the size envisaged by MEP.
The 36M Utility/General tug is ideally suited as a prime mover for this diverse roll of transportation and towage, since it can be optimised for the main job of towing large objects cost effectively and safely, and able to work in the shipping or offshore industry doing towing, escort, standby and anchor handling for large accommodation/work barges.
Though it is a small compact tug, it is suitably equipped with MEP’s purpose built anchor handling gears, and latest communication and navigation gears without the bulk and cost of a normal anchor handling tug when working in the offshore fields.
The typical propulsion engines for such a small vessel are normally low profile type; light weight engines. Though such engines have the advantage of weight; the life span is often compromised like that of gas engine, and often times even less. In the case of MEP’s 36M Utility/General tug, the engines are medium speed heavy duty engines like that found in current large offshore vessels rigged out for continuous heavy duty work.
The 36M tug will be classed with Bureau Veritas with the notation 1 3/3E ? Supply Vessel Deep Sea Coastal tug, as a Singapore registered tug.
MEP is always looking at innovative ways to maximise its services to its clients through forward thinking and practical approach in coming out with solutions. For any interested party, please do contact us for more details.
